The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a large-scale voter deletion campaign in Delhi, targeting vulnerable communities ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, leading a party delegation, submitted 3,000 pages of evidence to the Election Commission, alleging that BJP workers were systematically attempting to remove legitimate voters, particularly from marginalized groups such as Scheduled Castes, Dalits, and residents of slums.
“For a common person, a single vote represents their citizenship and voice in this country,” Kejriwal stated during a press briefing after the meeting.
Citing specific examples, Kejriwal claimed that BJP workers in Shahdara had secretly submitted a list of 11,008 voters for deletion, which the Election Commission allegedly began processing without scrutiny.
He further alleged that in Janakpuri, 24 BJP members applied to remove 4,874 votes, while in Tughlakabad, 15 workers sought the deletion of 2,435 voters. At one polling booth in Tughlakabad (Booth No. 117), two individuals reportedly tried to delete 554 votes, amounting to 40% of the total registered voters at that booth.
AAP has called for immediate action to halt these mass voter deletions and demanded the registration of FIRs against individuals submitting such applications.
Following the meeting, Kejriwal shared assurances received from the Election Commission to address these concerns. He stated that the commission promised there would be no mass deletions before the upcoming elections.
Additionally, they clarified that any individual applying to remove votes must now complete Form 7. Before any deletion is finalized, a field inquiry will be conducted by a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in the presence of representatives from all political parties.
To prevent misuse of the process, the Election Commission also assured that if an individual files more than five deletion requests, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) will personally conduct the field inquiry, again accompanied by political party representatives.
Kejriwal emphasized that these measures would help prevent the wrongful removal of voters and ensure a fair electoral process. The AAP remains vigilant, accusing the BJP of attempting to undermine democracy by disenfranchising Delhi residents and vowing to safeguard every citizen’s voting rights.
