Congress Leader Supports Party’s Stance on Centre’s Ordinance, AAP Welcomes Opposition!!

Date:

Congress leader JP Aggarwal expressed support for the decision taken by top party leaders regarding the Centre’s ordinance, emphasizing its well-thought-out nature. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed the Congress’ unequivocal opposition to the Delhi ordinance, considering it a positive development.

The ordinance in question pertains to the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in Delhi, which has been a contentious issue between the elected government and the central government.

JP Aggarwal, a Delhi party leader, acknowledged the need for unity within the party and emphasized the well-thought-out decision made by the party’s top leaders:

He stated that opposing the ordinance as directed by the party’s high command was the right course of action.

Aggarwal also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the central government of intentionally provoking other parties. The AAP welcomed the Congress’ unequivocal opposition to the Delhi ordinance, considering it a positive development.

Raghav Chadha, an AAP MP and national spokesperson, took to Twitter to express his appreciation for the Congress’ stance. He stated that the AAP would now participate in the upcoming meeting of opposition parties in Bengaluru, as the Congress had made its position clear on the ordinance issue.

Congress Leader Support Centre Ordinance

The BJP-led central government introduced the ordinance in May, which pertains to the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in Delhi. This ordinance effectively curtails the elected government’s control over service matters, counteracting a Supreme Court verdict that granted the Delhi government such control.

It seeks to establish a National Capital Civil Service Authority to oversee the transfer and disciplinary proceedings of Group-A officers from the DANICS cadre.

Congress-AAP Dynamics:

The AAP had been seeking the support of the Congress, which holds 31 seats in the Rajya Sabha, to oppose the ordinance. The BJP lacks a majority in the Upper House of Parliament.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had held meetings with top opposition leaders, appealing for their support on the ordinance issue. With the Congress now clearly opposing the ordinance, the AAP has decided to participate in the upcoming meeting of like-minded parties in Bengaluru.
