Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP of undermining the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) development initiatives in the national capital by arresting its top leaders, including former CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Addressing the media, she said, “To stop our work, they arrested the sitting Chief Minister of Delhi. We admit we couldn’t clean the Yamuna, but this is because Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain were arrested. The Central government did everything to obstruct our progress.”
Atishi also challenged the BJP, which governs 20 states, to match AAP’s performance. “While we couldn’t fulfill all promises, the work we’ve accomplished in the past decade, despite interference and conflicts with the Lt. Governor, is unparalleled. Can the BJP show a state where they provide free electricity like we do?” she questioned.
Addressing Delhi’s air pollution crisis, Atishi urged the Central Government to convene a meeting of northern states to develop a collaborative solution. She highlighted Punjab’s success in reducing stubble burning by 70% but noted that pollution from neighboring states continues to affect Delhi.
“Delhi’s borders aren’t walled. Despite our measures, pollution from outside sources remains a challenge,” she said.
Atishi emphasized that Delhi has no thermal power plants, brick kilns, or diesel buses, yet suffers from pollution caused by surrounding regions. “There are 11 polluting thermal power plants and 3,500 brick kilns nearby, which heavily impact Delhi’s air quality,” she added.
Concluding her remarks, Atishi urged the Central Government to unite northern states to address the issue comprehensively, stating, “This is not a problem Delhi can solve alone.”
