Delhi LG blames Kejriwal for Yamuna pollution, accuses AAP of neglect

Date:

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena has criticized former Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, holding him accountable for the worsening pollution levels in the Yamuna River.

In a strongly worded letter to Kejriwal, Saxena stated, “The Yamuna has reached its highest pollution levels this year. I hold you personally responsible, as you filed a petition in the Supreme Court, halting the cleaning work in the Yamuna. I have repeatedly urged you to personally assess the city’s condition.”

Referring to a recent incident, Saxena added, “Two days ago, I requested you through my post on ‘X’ to visit Rangpuri and Kapashera. However, instead of going yourself, you sent your self-declared temporary Chief Minister, Atishi, to the sites.”

Saxena also remarked, “It is heartening to see you finally acknowledging your responsibilities after ten years. You are now beginning to recognize the worsening conditions in Delhi and the struggles of its people. I assure you that I will continue drawing your attention to these critical issues.”

This is not the first instance of Saxena targeting Kejriwal over Yamuna pollution. In October, the LG shared images on social media of the Yamuna covered in white foam, criticizing the deteriorating condition of the river, which holds cultural and ecological significance for Delhi.

“During Chhath, the Yamuna’s state is particularly heartbreaking for the people of Delhi. Who is responsible for this plight? Who promised to clean the Yamuna and take a dip in it? Who stopped the revival work initiated last year under NGT orders?” Saxena questioned, taking a veiled jab at the AAP government.

The LG’s remarks add to the ongoing tension between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office over the city’s governance and environmental issues.
