In a continued crackdown on foreign nationals residing illegally in the national capital, Delhi Police has deported 11 Bangladeshi immigrants from the South West district, officials said on Wednesday. The deportations were carried out through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
The drive follows a directive from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, instructing the Delhi Police to take action against foreigners overstaying their visas.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), Surendra Choudhary, stated, “Acting on credible information regarding illegal migrants in the Mahipalpur area, our team detained 11 individuals who were identified as Bangladeshi nationals with expired visas.”
During interrogation, the individuals admitted that they had entered India on tourist visas but stayed beyond the visa expiration dates. After thorough verification and legal formalities, the group was deported through the FRRO, Choudhary explained.
The police are actively working to identify additional illegal migrants in the district and plan to take appropriate action, the DCP added.
This operation comes shortly after Delhi Police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including a mother-son duo, from South West Delhi on December 31. The trio had reportedly been residing in the area for an extended period without valid documentation.
Efforts to address the issue of foreign nationals overstaying visas in Delhi are expected to continue as authorities tighten measures to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
