Delhi sees drizzle and fog, AQI remains ‘severe’ for second day

Date:

Delhi residents woke up to foggy conditions and a light drizzle on Monday morning, with the minimum temperature recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Despite the rainfall, the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘severe’ category for the second consecutive day, standing at 406, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The AQI scale categorizes air quality as ‘good’ (0-50), ‘satisfactory’ (51-100), ‘moderate’ (101-200), ‘poor’ (201-300), ‘very poor’ (301-400), and ‘severe’ (401-500). Monday’s drizzle failed to alleviate pollution levels, leaving Delhi’s air highly polluted.

The city experienced a maximum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius, which was 2.3 degrees below the average for this time of year, following light rain in various parts during the morning hours, the IMD reported.

Humidity levels ranged from 79% to 95%, adding to the foggy conditions observed early in the day.

Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted cloudy skies and continued light rainfall on Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The combination of poor air quality, foggy weather, and fluctuating temperatures poses a challenge for Delhi residents as they brace for ongoing pollution and chilly conditions in the coming days.
