Karnal Crime Breakthrough: Attempted Murder Accused ‘Johnny’ Arrested After 18 Years from Mohali

In a major breakthrough, police in Karnal have arrested an absconding accused involved in an attempted murder case after nearly 18 years. The accused, identified as Sarvasu alias Johnny, was declared a proclaimed offender in 2010 and carried a reward of ₹5,000.

Shot Fired During Panchayat in 2008

The incident dates back to June 29, 2008, in Risalwa village under Assandh police station area. A पंचायत was held between two parties over a dispute related to property and a financial transaction of ₹7.22 lakh.

During the meeting, the argument escalated, and the accused allegedly opened fire with a revolver at Narendra Kumar from the opposing side, leaving him seriously injured. Following the complaint by the victim’s family, a case of attempted murder and other charges was registered.

Declared Proclaimed Offender, Stayed on the Run

After the incident, the accused fled the village and continued to evade arrest. In 2010, the court declared him a proclaimed offender due to his continuous absconding in a serious criminal case.

To avoid arrest, he kept changing locations and lived under hidden identities across Punjab and other states.

Arrested from Mohali After Years of Search

The CIA-2 team finally tracked him down and arrested him from Mohali on April 6, 2026. The operation was carried out under the supervision of CIA-2 in-charge Praveen Kumar and investigating officer Devender Singh.

The accused has been produced in court and taken on a two-day police remand for further investigation.
