In October 1997, Keechant became a police officer. She was sent to the Fifth range of the Nassau County Police Department. After that, Sewell moved up through the ranks and became the officer in charge of the 7th Precinct.

In 2008, she attended a class at the FBI Academy for active police officers in the United States. She was also responsible for jobs like running the FBI’s Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Bureau.
