The live-action One Piece Netflix show is almost here. Here’s what we know so far, including the stars, the plot, any changes to the release date, and more. Get ready to sail the seas because One Piece is coming soon to Netflix!
For those who don’t know what One Piece is, it was originally a manga written and drawn by Eiichiro Oda. It was the best-selling manga of all time. Toei Animation turned it into an anime in 1999, and the show is still going strong after 1,000 episodes.
Last year, an anime movie called One Piece Film: Red came out. But the One Piece train (or boat, in this case) isn’t stopping because a live-action series has been in the works for a few years.
Since Netflix said it would make a live-action version of One Piece in 2020, fans have been eager to learn more about the show. So far, this is everything we know.
When Will Netflix Have One Piece Live Action?
On August 31, 2023, Netflix will be the first place to get the One Piece live-action series. Netflix recently announced the release year in a tweet after the first season of the show was being filmed:

The same account then shared the exact date in a post about a new clip. The show was thought to come out in the summer since it has a tropical look. And now we don’t have long to wait!
The live-action show is being made by Tomorrow Studios, which also made the Cowboy Bebop show on Netflix. Steven Madea and Matt Owens, known for their work on X-Files and Agents of Shield, are in charge of the live-action show. The creator of the original series, Eiichiro Oda, has also been very active in making this movie.

What’s the Plot of One Piece Live-Action Movie?
So far, there is no official plot summary for the Netflix show, but we can expect it to follow the same story as the manga and anime. There will be eight episodes, which have also been announced.
In an alternate Earth where there are a lot of pirates, the show will be about Monkey D. Luffy, a teenage boy who eats Devil Fruit and turns it into rubber. The story follows him as he sails across the seas after being moved by his childhood hero, Red-Haired Shanks, to find One Piece and become the King of the Pirates.
Even though we don’t know exactly which anime arcs the live-action show will cover, we can guess they will be early ones. Based on the characters already cast, the Baratie Arc, the Orange Town Arc, the Arlong Park Arc, the Syrup Village Arc, the Romance Dawn Arc, and the Loguetown Arc will be included.
Especially, the Romance Dawn Arc seems to be true, since Netflix released the script for the first episode in 2021, and it’s called “Romance Dawn.”
