This visit coincided with the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Resolving OCI Card Issues

PM Modi affirmed that the issues related to OCI cards in Reunion Island had been successfully resolved, emphasizing the government’s commitment to prioritize the well-being of Indians living abroad.

He announced that OCI cards were now being issued in Reunion Island and that efforts were underway to resolve similar issues in Martinique and Guadeloupe.

Facilitating Academic Exchange

PM Modi acknowledged their desire to connect their expertise with India by recognizing the valuable contributions of academicians and professionals abroad. He revealed that teaching opportunities in Indian institutions had been made more accessible to teachers and professors from France and other nations.

Furthermore, he announced a significant development, stating that Indian students pursuing a master’s degree in France would be granted a long-term post-study visa of five years, providing them with extended opportunities for career development and collaboration.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure and Cultural Bonds

PM Modi emphasized the transformative impact of digital platforms in India, including the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Highlighting the collaborative efforts between India and France, he announced that UPI would be adopted in France, with its implementation beginning at the iconic Eiffel Tower.

This initiative allows Indian tourists to pay rupees through UPI, further enhancing convenience and fostering cultural exchanges between the two countries. Furthermore, PM Modi emphasized the enduring archaeological missions conducted jointly by India and France, spanning from Chandigarh to Ladakh, and stresses the importance of digital infrastructure in strengthening bilateral ties.

PM Modi’s visit to France was marked by a warm ceremonial welcome at the airport by French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. As a guest of honor, he attended the Bastille Day Parade at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring the strong and enduring strategic partnership between the two nations.
