“The Little Mermaid” Box Office Collection: Eighth Highest-grossing Movie of 2023 in the United States!

The competition at the box office was washed away by The Little Mermaid’s $117 million opening weekend in the United States. The Little Mermaid is already the eighth highest-grossing movie of 2023 in the United States.

The Little Mermaid, a live-action movie from Disney, did very well at the box office in its first weekend. Based on Disney’s 1989 animated classic, the film starring Halle Bailey made $95.5 million on 4,320 screens in North America, according to figures from the studio given to the Associated Press on Sunday.

The movie came out last Friday. Box Office Mojo said on Monday that the film had already made more than $117 million in the United States and another $68.3 million overseas. This gives the movie a total global gross of more than $185 million for the holiday weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo’s predictions, The Little Mermaid’s big opening weekend has already made it the eighth highest-grossing movie in the United States of 2023. You may have a look at the tweet linked below:

Jodi Benson, who voiced Ariel in the original animated show, recently told PEOPLE that she thought the changes made to the new live-action reimagining through new songs, new plot lines, and lyric changes to well-known songs were “very important” for the movie.

Said Benson, 61:

“When you look at our film, we started in the studio in 1986, and we were released in 1989. Times change, people change, cultures change. What matters and what is important changes. And as a studio, we need to make those adjustments, and we need to take into consideration what’s going on around us. We need to be aware.”

A few racist comments were made about Bailey, 23, online in 2019 after she was cast as Ariel. Before the movie came out, director Rob Marshall told Deadline,  “I didn’t think that it was a big deal, casting a woman of color. I thought, ‘That’s an archaic way to see the world.’ “

We just released recent news articles. Read more on the source page:

Marshall, who is 62 years old, said that seeing these young girls of color and young boys of color admire Bailey’s performance in the film was very moving. He tied the story of The Little Mermaid to the problems that some people face in the real world.

The director said:

“It was interesting to me that this whole idea of prejudice in the world is really what the film’s about. [Ariel] teaches her father that there’s nothing to be afraid of with those who are different from you.”

In addition to Bailey, Melissa McCarthy plays Ursula, Awkwafina plays Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder, Javier Bardem plays King Triton, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian, and Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric.

The Little Mermaid is playing in theaters now.
