He was receiving ventilator support in a private hospital due to pneumonia. His sons Vijaya Prabhakaran and Shanmuga Pandian, as well as his wife Premalatha, survive him.

The party headquarters declared earlier today that Captain Vijayakanth tested positive for COVID-19 and was being supported by a ventilator. Massive Crowd For Vijayakanth Funeral Procession

In Koyambedu, a sizable gathering came together to say goodbye to Captain Vijayakanth. There are major traffic detours across the city as people come from all walks of life to offer their final respects to the much-loved leader. At the DMDK headquarters, the body of Captain Vijayakanth has been deposited, drawing sizable crowds.

The funeral procession left Virugambakkam at 10:30 am and arrived at Koyambedu at 1:25 pm on its way to the DMDK headquarters. Significant traffic problems have resulted from the thousands of mourners congregating at the party office, the Koyambedu flyover, and the adjacent neighbourhoods.

Traffic diversions have been implemented at Chennai’s Koyambedu flyover due to the severe congestion. It is recommended that drivers make use of detours including the Badi overpass, Thiruveedhi Amman Service Road, and Shanthikalani to avoid the impacted regions.
