Pataudi Palace’s Rich History

When Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the eighth Nawab of Pataudi and Saif Ali Khan’s paternal grandfather, wed Begum Sajida Sultan of Bhopal in 1939, the Pataudi Palace was conceived and designed. He was unwilling to accept her into the family’s current estate. Consequently, he enlisted the assistance of Austrian architect Karl Malte von Heinz and New Delhi colonial architect Robert Tor Russell to supervise the palace’s design and construction.

Following his passing in 1952, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, his son, inherited the land. The owners of the Neemrana Hotels network of “non-hotel” hotels, Francis Wacziarg and Aman Nath, subsequently leased out the site for the benefit of the uninitiated.

After the Palace was transformed into the Pataudi Palace Hotel between 2005 and 2014, the Pataudi family no longer owned the property when Mansoor Ali passed away in 2011. But when Saif Ali Khan was given the opportunity to repurchase the land in 2014, he accepted it without hesitation.
