BREAKING: Varanasi Court Allows ASI Survey Of Gyanvapi Mosque Premises Barring Wuzukhana; Hindu Side Benefits

Date:

On Friday, the Varanasi District Court granted an application filed by four Hindu women worshippers who wanted the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey of the entire Gyanvapi mosque premises, excluding the Wuzukhana (sealed area), to determine whether or not the mosque was built atop an older Hindu temple.

Hindu side attorney Vishnu Shankar Jain told the media, “I have been informed that my application has been approved and the court has directed to conduct an ASI survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex, excluding the Wazu tank which has been sealed.” Within three to six months, I anticipate finishing the survey.

The context of the situation

The Varanasi Court is hearing a case brought by four Hindu female worshippers who want unrestricted access to the Gyanvapi Mosque grounds at all times of the year. In May of this year, they initially approached the court with their complaint (under Section 75(e) and Order 26 Rule 10A of CPC).

According to the application of the four Hindu women worshippers, the Swayambhu Jyotirlinga had been present at the site in question (Gyanvapi Mosque Premises) for tens of thousands of years before it was repeatedly destroyed or damaged by Muslim invaders who harbored hatred for unbelievers and idolaters beginning with the attack of Mahmud Ghazni in 1017 AD.
