Earlier in the day, the member of parliament for the BJP who represented Pune was taken to the hospital and placed on life support. On Twitter, the city administrator of Pune posted a poignant homage to the late leader and notified followers that the last rites ceremony for Girish Bapat will take place at seven in the morning today.

“A heartfelt tribute to Bharatiya Janata Party MP Girishbhau Bapat of Pune Lok Sabha Constituency! Girish Bhau will be cremated today at 7 pm at Vaikunth crematorium,” tweeted the party chief in Marathi.

The passing of Bhartiya Janata Party leader Girish Bapat was lamented by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the president of the Maharashtra section of the BJP. Bawankule referred to Bapat’s passing as a significant setback for the party.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated, “It is a big loss for the BJP as Bapat has left us forever. We used to learn a lot from him and his style of politics.”  The passing of the 73-year-old man from Pune has been mourned by a number of leaders, who have paid their respects to him and expressed their sorrow.

The news of Bapat’s passing was described as “extremely saddening” by the chief of the NCP, Sharad Pawar. Chandrakant Patil, a senior politician in the BJP and a cabinet member in the state of Maharashtra, described Bapat as being similar to a guru and a father figure.

According to Chandrakant Patil, Girish Bapat’s friendships with members of opposing parties, as well as his relationships with members of the public and party workers, were unparalleled. Sharad Pawar stated in a tweet, “In his long political career of four decades, Bapat always took an all-inclusive stand.”

During the Lok Sabha Elections in 2019, the 73-year-old politician was successful in winning election to the Lok Sabha from the city of Pune in Maharashtra. In the past, he was in charge of various ministries under the government of Maharashtra, including the Ministry of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, the Food and Drugs Administration, and Parliamentary Affairs.
