While still a student, Mrunal began her acting career. She made her television debut by playing Gauri Bhonsle Gaikwad opposite Mohit Sehgal in the TV series “Mujhse Kuchh Kehti…Yeh Khamoshiyaan.” On the television program Har Yug Mein Ayega Ek Arjun on Star Plus, she played a journalist.
Along with co-anchor Barun Sobti, she also served as host of the comic stage production Do Fool Chaar Mali in Dubai. Mrunal continued her acting career by costarring with Arjit Taneja in Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV.
The actress has also dabbled in Marathi films, appearing in Hello Nadan, Vitti Dandu, Surajya, and Rangkarmi, among others. Tuyul & Mbak Yul Reborn, an Indonesian television series, featured Mrunal. She was a guest star on the program. She took part in the 2014 season of the sports-themed reality TV program Box Cricket League. Together with her then-partner Sharad Chandra Tripathi, she participated in season 7 of the reality television program Nach Baliye.

Mrunal performed a unique dance number in the TV show SauBhagyalaxmi in 2016. Thakur made her international debut in the David Womark-produced Indo-American movie Love Sonia. With the release of “Super 30” in 2019, Mrunal made her Bollywood debut. Hrithik Roshan also acted in the film.
