Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Abu Dhabi for a day-long visit, expressing his anticipation for talks with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to enhance the multifaceted bilateral ties.

This visit marks PM Modi’s fifth visit to the UAE, where he was warmly welcomed by UAE’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan:

Upon landing in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi tweeted his excitement for the discussions with HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing the importance of deepening India-UAE cooperation. He expressed gratitude to Crown Prince HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the warm reception.

This visit follows PM Modi’s successful trip to Paris, where he attended the Bastille Day parade and signed agreements to strengthen bilateral ties with France.

PM Modi was honored with the ‘Order of Zayed,’ the UAE’s highest civilian award, in 2019 to recognize his efforts in strengthening bilateral relations. During his fifth visit to the UAE, PM Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

This visit builds upon the previous engagements between the two countries in various sectors such as trade, investments, energy, food security, science and technology, education, fintech, defense, security, and people-to-people ties. During PM Modi’s visit, energy, food security, and defense are expected to be the key focus areas.

The two countries will assess the progress in bilateral relations following the signing of the landmark Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which bolstered economic engagement between India and the UAE, even amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

India and the UAE have a robust partnership across numerous sectors. The UAE is India’s second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding USD 84 billion. Additionally, the UAE is India’s second-largest export destination and was the fourth-largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) for India in 2022-23.

The UAE plays a crucial role in India’s energy security as a significant source of crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The Indian expatriate community constitutes approximately 30% of the UAE’s population, making it the largest ethnic community in the country. The Indian Nationals residing in the UAE were estimated to be 3.5 million in 2021.

Yoga and Indian cinema enjoy immense popularity in the UAE, contributing to the cultural exchange between the two nations.
