Date:

A civic official in Thane, Maharashtra, said Thursday that the family of a sick woman weighing 160 kilograms called for assistance from the fire department after the woman slipped off her bed.

Due to her bad health, the 62-year-old woman had trouble getting out of bed and fell somewhere between 8 and 8:15 a.m. in their Waghbil District apartment.

No one from the family could come to get her

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) representative, her loved ones were unable to reposition her on the bed.

“The 62-year-old woman with mobility issues due to her bad health accidentally fell from her bed at home in the Waghbil area around 8 a.m.,” said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the RDMC in Thane. The family tried to return her to the bed but were unable to lift her, so they phoned the fire department for assistance. As soon as they heard the news, members of the fire department and the disaster management cell went to the apartment and helped the woman to the bed.” Thankfully, the woman was unharmed in the tumble.

An “unusual emergency call,” as the RDMC director put it

Even more so, Tadvi continued, “Although RDMC responds immediately to many emergency calls, this was an unusual one.”

He added that members of the RDMC raced to the apartment, helped the woman up, and set her down on the bed. According to the official, the woman walked away from the fall unscathed.

He noted that while RDMC does respond to a number of emergency calls, this one was different.
