A woman in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, gave birth on the street before the governor’s residence, again drawing attention to the absence of municipal and medical infrastructure and inclusive healthcare facilities for all.
After the woman and her family missed their chance to call an ambulance in time, she had to give birth while traveling. Tragically, the newborn did not make it and the situation became catastrophic.
The Twitter video shows the mother draped in a saree and several other women present to assist with the birth. The saree material served as a makeshift curtain, and the mother had to deliver the infant behind it. The film also included the sounds of passing traffic.
The Samajwadi Party (SP), the state’s opposition party, has been critical of the BJP government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A tweet claimed that UP’s healthcare infrastructure was deteriorating due to Yogi administration policies.

The Samajwadi Party also posted a video of the birth, which took place in front of the Rajbhavan gate (the residence of the state governor).
The Samajwadi Party (SP), the main opposition party, branded the incident a failure by the BJP government and the health department and sought justice for the woman.

Cases of indifference like this have occurred recently
A woman in her twenties gave birth by the side of the road in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, in May. Her husband is a daily wager. According to news accounts, the woman was denied access to a nearby community health center (CHC) because she lacked Rs 1,000 in bribe money.
Women, including bystanders, rushed to help the distressed woman. A newborn boy was born, and the woman wrapped her in a saree. The social media reaction to that occurrence was similar.
