The I Love Meerut selfie point at Commissionerate Square now features a figure of Mahatma Gandhi fashioned from discarded materials, courtesy of the Meerut Municipal Corporation.

The concept of creating a statue from discarded materials was ingenious, but the final product was horrifying and unsettling. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi had its face destroyed, making it appear sinister.

Anger was directed at the Meerut Municipal Corporation

People in Meerut were angry at the city government for erecting a statue of the nation’s founder that some found disturbing. The city of Meerut heard the complaints and took the statue down from the popular photo op.

Dr. Prince Raj, an artist with Eco India Innovation Company, spent one lakh rupees on the monument. The artist was commissioned to create the Mahatma Gandhi statue out of discarded materials by the Meerut Municipal Corporation.

Oil drums, cutting debris, auto-rickshaw tires, and nut bolts were utilized to construct the statue. The statue’s visage, which was completed in just 15 days, is both hideous and terrifying. Many voiced concerns about the statue, but officials ignored them. After hearing growing calls for the statue’s removal, authorities acted swiftly to do so.
